The Grand Masters Dragons race will run at 4 pm on Saturday at the conclusion of the qualifying heats.

PRACTICE LOCATION REMAINS THE SAME
We will continue to be practicing at our Rafters Landing home. The Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival Is the largest user of the Edmonton River Valley area and will be opening up the practice grid for our teams starting the week of June 4, 2018.
BONUS — being on flat water at the Telford Lake location allows us to hold a DRAGON BOAT CANADA QUALIFYING EVENT, including a special 2000m event!
We invite dragon boat teams from near and far, novices or experienced, to come out. You’re more than welcome!
Stay tuned for our open house at Rafters Landing to come down and try the sport if you’re curious about those long boats! Registrations are open. Come join us!

2018 Dragon Boat Steering Clinic and Certification Training Leduc Boat Club (LBC) and Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival Association are offering a full day steering clinic and certification training course. This clinic is designed for non certified steerspersons, and will provide participants with classroom knowledge and practical experience.
Date: Saturday, May 26th Time: 9:00AM - 3:00PM Location: Leduc Boat Club, Telford Lake, 4801 44 Street, Leduc Cost: $20.00 per person What to bring: Notepad, pen, PFD, sunscreen, water bottle How to sign up: Please register before May 23th with your name, phone number and team name. We will contact you directly to arrange payment and complete the registration
Clinic Schedule: 9:00 - 12:00PM - classroom instruction and written exam 12:00 - 1:00PM - Lunch (provided by EDBFA) 1:00 - 3:30PM - Practical training (on the water through mentoring and practice races)
The EDBFA has a long standing Steersperson Training Program to enhance the safety of dragon boating on the North Saskatchewan River. The program is required for anyone wishing to steer EDBFA dragon boats, who has not been certified by another dragon boat steering program or by Dragon Boat Canada. The steering program is a graduated program to build knowledge, skills and confidence as a steersperson. The program consists of 5 parts:
- Steersperson Certification Classroom Training - EDBFA Steersperson Written Exam (requires a minimum of 75% to pass) - Mentoring Sessions - minimum of two hours - Race Format Practical Exam - minimum of two race format practical exams - River Practices - Minimum of 3 practices on the river
ATTENTION TEAMS AND PADDLERS We are also looking for teams and paddlers to come out from 1:00 - 3:30PM to help with the on the water practical training. Come on out to Telford Lake for a fun and free afternoon of paddling and racing!

Resource Coordinator - Canada Summer Job Program The Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival Association (EDBFA), is a non-profit organization that provides training on various components of dragon boating in addition to running a full practice season throughout the summer months and annual festival that will occur from August 18-20, 2017. The EDBFA will provide the right candidate with an opportunity to learn and develop transferable skills, such as standard administrative functions and management of a small office, practice and volunteer scheduling, basic site maintenance, event planning, and communications including social media.
Job Description: The main responsibilities are to liaise with teams on behalf of the EDBFA regarding policies and procedures, administer practice and festival registrations, schedule practices, coordinate resources (equipment and skilled personnel) as well as maintain the practice site. On a day-to-day basis you will coordinate and prepare resources for practices, manage the practice site office, monitor the water flow and manage communications with teams in a timely fashion while working on special projects that will assist the EDBFA in delivering an effective paddling season and festival. To achieve this, you will be working alone at the practice site for the beginning of each shift preparing for teams to arrive for practices and manage practices. In addition to this, you will work with various members of the EDBFA board, committees and contractors. You will lead some internal projects, such as the coaching/steering resource program. Your work will enable the EDBFA to grow and promote the sport of dragon boating in Edmonton by delivering a responsive practice season, quality training sessions and a superior festival.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Potential candidates must have been a full-time student during the previous academic year, and that intend to return to school full-time for the next academic year.
To be successful in this position, you must be a self-starter, possess leadership skills and be exceptionally organized and motivated. You need to demonstrate strong skills in time management, organization, communication, leadership and have experience with Microsoft Word and Excel software. You must be available to work 35 to 45 hours per week during a Monday – Thursday workweek. Shift times vary beginning at 1:00PM and ending at 10:00PM, with the exception of long weekends when the practice site is closed. You must also be available during the entire festival weekend (August 18-20, 2017). The scheduled start date is May 23, 2017, concluding August 26, 2017 . You may be required to work the occasional Friday or Saturday for special events. You must be able to lift 50 pounds, have your own vehicle, and be comfortable working around and on the river. The hourly rate is $15.00.
Location: The practice site and office is located at Rafter’s Landing beside the Edmonton Queen Riverboat (9734-98 Avenue). The festival site is located at Louise McKinney Park.
